Pont-y-dulais: Overbridge...
Over the weekend I decided that I'd been putting off the over bridge on Pont-y-dulais for too long, this structure, although not based upon any one prototype, is an important view block on the layout, and with such a small overall footprint, every part of the layout needs to be a consistent standard...
The bridge girder was cut down to size, and then the sides built. The basic structure is Wills coarse stone sheet, cut and scored to fit based upon the cardboard templates. The parapet walls are supposed to look rebuilt, in brick. I've get to finish the second side, but the proof of concept worked so I'm happy to proceed. The bridge deck will be about the level of the brick, rather than at the base of the girder - if it's visible in all the shadow I will add the under deck girders, but we'll see because as it's a micro, not a real layout, there are no fiddle yards so no light to shine in and under from off scene. The wall here might be blurred but it shows the view from the bridge, that perhaps you or I would have on our way to school, jumping up on the brick to peer over the top at the sidings and shed beyond. The idea is this is the throat of a yard, so wagons shuffled from one track to the other and it has proven to be a good little distraction to play with for the odd 5-10 minutes as well as being a photo background for completed commissions. It's no exhibition layout so that takes a bit of time pressure off, and the chance to experiment with some ideas.
Once the structure is built I will roughly paint it, before bedding in and work can then start on the messy scenic work in earnest... More soon...
