Friday Update: Seventeen Nine Twenty-one…

It feels like a week where despite lots of progress I’ve not a lot to show for it, mind a good chunk is back office effort for Planet Industrials and Light Railway Stores…
It has been good to see Renfrew Wharf take a big step towards completion this week, with the delivery of some suitable thin plywood and LED lighting strip to add the ‘lid’. There is still some finishing work to undertake, but it’s lovely to see this come together under it’s own lighting, the overgrown and run down nature sings out in it’s dingy browny green and grey way with a dark gloomy sky.
In the home fleet my CF7 has had a coat of primer and the first bit of colour as Humbrol gloss 19 stands in for Pinsly red, and the 08 refettling moves on to underframe detail. We’re going for an artists impression here rather than strict prototype fidelity, in keeping with the rest of the model… I want something that is useful and workman like, of my hand, of my history, that feels part of a layout rather than sticking out as poorly detailed or factory fresh.
Recognising that everyone learns and evolves and that older models can be left as museum pieces in our cabinets, or reworked as our skills improve gives us a ribbon or path to help make sense of our journey in this wonderful hobby. If you’d like me to help tell a story in your model railway then get in touch and we can discuss the proposal. In the meantime, have a good weekend, more soon…

  1. That opening shot of Renfrew Wharf looks excellent ... it is a well done and well composed scene ... I think the grey sky is what really ties it all together for me ... it matches the level of lighting and gives an "after the rain" feel that works well.

    1. Thanks Rob, I caught up with its future customer on FaceTime today and he’s very happy with it which is of course the main thing. I’m proud of the finish, and the ‘sunshine after the rain’ is exactly the look I aimed for, a sort of Scottish Pont-y-dulais…
