Down on Beaverbrook: Time Machine…

Fans of Red Dwarf will remember the gangs excitement when they find a working ‘time drive’, only to see frustration as they travel back in time but stay exactly where they are…

Beaverbrook is my equivalent. Without moving a step I can travel through time and get lost switching the layout, calming my busy mind through tactile control and logical operation.

Last night we visited 1990 where TerraTransport was still at its prime and the big orange behemoth was simmering away on just a few small properties in the US… Dartmouth Terminal SW1500 1502 is found on Beaverbrook. Notice the ex CN van at the rear of the train, sign of the times…

Last night saw one of my now regular weekly operational live videos where we run some trains and I talk about the week amongst other topics, inspiration and perhaps a little mindfulness. I am still very tired with this puppy so if you do go back to watch it excuse the few faux pas and the dodgy camera angles…

Until next time, more soon…

  1. Hi James

Really enjoyed the video and your thoughts as you switched out Beaverbrook. I have a Broadway SW1500 - I really like the prototype- but like you did I am intending to change the sound card and will see if it makes the improvement you achieved.

Last Friday and Saturday I was at the NMRA British Convention and spent time switching on the the Thameside Laxton branch. I had taken some stock and one of the stars was your GP40 #3040. It seemed to be in use over much of the weekend with not just me operating - a real tribute to your work!! If you can find some YouTube footage of the weekend you will see it working. I did not take any photos but have a couple from others and will send them.

Hope you managed a relaxing weekend in spite of the puppy

    Best regards
    Alan

    1. Thanks Alan, I will see what I can find. I didn’t really do much to the GP40 but yes, whilst jt was hard to sell it on I’m glad you bought it - and I know it’s got a good home. The decoder in the SW1500 is the PNP2 I think, I fitted a small rail exclusive speaker at the front under the radiator grill. Running is so quiet and pretty smooth apart from speed step 1, a little jerky, but the sound is transformed.

    2. Hi James
From what I remember you did some detailing and weathering on the GP40 which added to it compared with a stock Atlas version and I am sure you tweaked the sound to make it more realistic. You also of course provided the custom decals for the mythical shortline

I will have to think about the sound etc for the SW1500

      Best regards
      Alan
