Commission: Barclay tank in P4…
Towards the end of 2021 I was happy to assemble a chassis for this High Level Kits Andrew Barclay 0-6-0t model. In the time that followed my customers ambition to build the body didn’t materialise and he asked if I would take on a second commission to ‘finish her off’…
I’ve built plenty of etched kits over the years but his was the first time I had rolled a boiler - otherwise a relatively straight forward kit, well written instructions, clever design and generally, parts that fitted with a minimum of fuss. Complete too, beyond the castings, with all the sundries, bar, rod, wire etc.
There are a few gaps that have shown up in primer, usually along edges the instructions said not to solder - these will need a little dab of filler and will smooth down under the final paint job. Built as intended, although details to reflect a particular prototype - the only modification being the footsteps at the front of the tanks. These are straight in the kit, but the prototypes were mounted further out and then kicked back in under he cross heads, easy to modify the kit parts.
This is a burly prototype but more like a Hornby Peckett B4 rather than Planet Industrials Victory! I was excited to see my fellow customers other industrials - this is going to be beautifully finished and weathered when he is finished, I’ll be sure to share photos in a future Friday update.
If you’ve got some kits in the drawer and you’re certain you’ll never get around to them I’d be more than happy to give you a fixed price proposal. I can source parts, assemble, paint and finish - or any stages of this, so flexible to your requirements. I have currently have capacity for kit building towards the end of 2025, get your name down sooner rather than later… (smaller jobs can be done anytime so anything else drop me a line and I’ll advise when I can make a start). Until next time more soon…
