Mosslanda: Denton Road - it’s a sign…

Just three small pieces of paper superglued to 10thou styrene. That is all it took to bring the station to life…

Everything is too clean and tidy, but I can overlook that for now, as it will come in time. Miniature me stands waiting for my train, and no, without any doubt, we know we are at Denton Road. Platform 2b… suggesting a long platform served by trains in different zones, suggests a space larger than we have modelled. Under the carpark a Regional Railways set of timetables, custom designed but inspired by the prototype. The memories that flowed when I found old photographs… checking train times on a board!

These scenes are indistinct in my mind but clear as I try out composition and detail in these closing stages… colour, texture and balance. I appraise the scene, perhaps more as an artist, and decide on what and where signs and details work best. Nothing must jar, nor be too ‘noisy’. I think the last detail in this part of the scene is likely to be a yellow wall mounted litter bin - once I’ve scratch built it! Then it’s a case of dirtying up the track and ballast a little and adding some litter and the station will be complete. There are still other parts that need my attention, but more on that another time. Until then, more soon…

  1. What I believe you have achieved in your artful approach to composition (in all your works) is suggestion. Not all the details or pieces need to be there, we as the viewer fill them in. It has been said "less is more", but there is more to it that putting less of something, it is enough of the right thing so that we imagine more.

    1. Stephen, thank you, this is artfully described, and I think you’ve articulated something very important, yes, story telling through modelling - it requires the viewer to do a lot more than the reader so about suggestion. I like it, thank you.
