Goodbye Pont-y-dulais…

After a fantastic weekend at Doncaster exhibiting the collection of layouts and talking with the public things were topped off with Pont-y-dulais going to a new home…

James smiling ear to ear about picking up Pont-y-dulais.

Selling a layout like this can be a real emotional wrench as a lot of me goes in to creating my own models, however James and his Mum have both recently returned to the hobby after his childhood interest waned with girls and such as a teenager (sounds like many of us!). Having just taken ownership of Phil Parker’s BRM project layout from the giveaway completion, ostensibly for himself he didn’t have space so his Mum stepped in after falling in love with the scene and it’s artistry - it will go on display in her front room and such a lovely wonderful family I feel very very happy that it has gone to a good home.

Rather fitting the last train to operate on the layout was my sound fitted Victory.

With Mollington Road now transferred to the assets of Planet Industrials that has been a successful clear out and given me the funds to move forwards with a new OO layout and probably justify the large logo blue N gauge class 37 I keep trying to avoid buying!

As I said to people at the show, the plan is to build a version of Boothstown. A chat with Stephen Oakden shared some fascinating operating insight to the Astley Green system at this location which I hope to copy on my inspired by scene. We shall see!

Until next time, more soon…

    1. Thanks Colin, good to see you too and catch up properly. If you’d have been around on Saturday we probably wouldn’t have had a chance for such a long chat, it was a lot busier.

  4. I had a long chat with James's mum late in the day and she is incredibly pleased with the model and sees it as more than just a railway, but a stunning bit of art too. Both layouts have gone to a very good home I think.

  5. Thanks James, I'm really pleased my mum bought the layout. I think she's even more pleased than I am - she's sent multiple photos with all sorts of rolling stock on there, perhaps not all prototypical but the last pic had a red Victory and a very fetching orange and black 21t wagon. It's been a very busy couple of days at Dulais shed. The local enthusiast photographer must have sold some photos as the Escort seems to have been replaced with a 944.
I'll look forward to visiting PyD in the future to take inspiration, but right now I have my work cut out getting my own project started. Wish me luck...
