Commission: Plymouth Edaville in 1:24...

This commission has been a real rest cure in many ways, my customer had a model of this characterful prototype many years ago and asked me to build him one in 1:24 scale...

It follows many of the ideas of my larger 7/8ths scale scratch builds incorporating a laser cut acrylic chassis with 3D printed details, compact drive to the rear axle and discreet hidden back scratcher pick ups. The body is then largely scratchbuilt in styrene with an engine out of a 1:24 scale model truck, a 3D printed front radiator and etched brass radiator grill.

The wood has been hand craved from thin styrene and then carefully painted to look like distressed and worn timber - a caricature but not one taken to extreme. The windows use real glass, from Microscope slide covers, as nothing looks more like glass than glass.

The finish is weathered, but subtle and gentle observation through a light wash, dry brush and airbrushing - keeping things neat but well worn. The roof is secured with small 2mm diameter magnets, not the neatest of finish on the inside of the roof, as it was an after thought, but it does the job well and allows you to remove the roof to see the detailed interior with basic controls and bench seat.

If you have a model from your past you'd like to see turned into a reality, do get in touch for a custom personal proposal, based on your needs and specific model. I love making these one off creations, and I hope they breathe life into their customers model making. Get in touch via the form on my website, the forum messaging or Facebook. In the meantime, more soon...
