Commission: Motor Rail 10hp in 16mm…
The LocoRemote kits from Chris Rennie are well designed and characterful. Keenly priced too, in part due to his use of a filament printer…
For construction and printing reasons the base of the model and the top of the bonnet are printed in different orientations, which compounds matters as the lines go in different directions! The material is soft enough to respond to sanding and the smaller details are added as part of the construction so sanding and smoothing can take place before assembly.
If you’d like me to assemble and finish a similar kit from Chris’s range, then get in touch for a personal proposal. Equally happy to design and scratchbuild a prototype for a completely unique model. Until next time, more soon…
This Motor Rail 10hp is a good example. The work of the commission has largely been focused on removing the sight and impact of the residual layering in the finish. Even after several hours I’ve not managed to entirely disguise them but I hope the finished model feels somewhat hand crafted and more personal as a result.
She is finished in the same colours as she was printed in - but less garish and a closer match to the prototype that my customer remembered from time at Torrington. Red was Humbrol 174, green a mix of Precision BR green and Humbrol 3. He wanted a very lightly weathered finish too, sometimes harder to achieve than a heavily weathered one! All of this undertaken with my usual Humbrol Enamels (33/98) with some drybrushed gunmetal for worn edges (53).
