Penpont Dries: Pastal shades…
A good friend observed yesterday “there is something about china clay layouts, the setting, the pastal shades of the weathering, they just work”. With the colour and most of the weathering applied to Penpont dries over the past few days, I’m inclined to agree…
Another good friend, Chris, commented!
I like how a signature is those blue hoods and how this composition tones down everything to let their voices lead.
I enjoy taking photos through the construction phase and sharing them here with you all. It fuels an energy amd commitment to continue, and, in this case, a potent mix of Humbrol enamels have transformed the dries! Base colours were 28, 64, 70 and 72. Blue details picked out with sadly discontinued 109. Weathered down with 98 and a heavy dose of 28… I’ve since painted the sleepers and rails ready to add the ballast today - this will then be weathered down further with more 28 - the stock will follow. Studying photos the brake van and 08 will follow my usual methods, but the Clay wagon bodies will be much whiter... but I digress.
Then it will be done, in a few weeks, from inspiration to inspiring…
A lifelong muse, a deep scratch, well and truly itched. Different in form to Lochdubh but equally important. Have a great day, enjoy our hobby. Until next time, more soon…

Superb.
ReplyDeleteLooks very atmospheric but from what I remember needs a little more clay dust everywhere -although that might be not the effect you want
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing developments
