Penpont Dries: Parallel lines…
This weekend has seen focused but relaxed progress on this micro scene, Penpont Dries. Saturday night saw the track painted and yesterday, I applied ballast and road surfaces …
In the between times, when dry enough, I’ve continued to play trains. How can two parallel lines offer such a mindful and peaceful retreat… but it does. Shuffling the little 08 and stock in and out, forming and re-forming trains, still squeaky clean… just magic.
A quick test last night proved it still fitted well in the box - and today, between shopping and commission work there may be the opportunity to finish things off, scenically, with some static grass alongside the roadway.
Finish things off…
It’s only been a few days really since we started.
This little layout has been a rather wonderful distraction, and I’ve learnt about China clay weathering and just how small a scenic ‘grown up’ model railway can be - it has certainly been a rather lovely experience and it’s not over yet. Until next time, more soon…

Morning James. Penpont dries is such a restrained, thoughtful model, I particularly like the blue painted rainwater down pipes, they shout out English China Clays! People often fall into the trap of over signage, big billboard signs announcing what the clay works is and who it belongs to. Most clay works had a sign at the road entrance to the site and then a modest amount of health and safety signage where appropriate. One of the few times ECC trumpeted it's ownership of a building that I can think of was the huge letters and logo on the Cambrian bulk store at Par harbour, even this was removed in the 80's? Diesel depot models seem to fall into the same trap too. The black and white shot of 08113 is very atmospheric. One last thing, did Alan take any pictures of Marsh Mills? Great stuff as always. Take care.
