Penpont Dries: All things considered…

I like to pause, pose models, take photos - to reflect on a project during its realisation. It is something I’ve long practiced through my creative work, even as a youngster - an opportunity then, to consider all things…

Penpont Dries is no different but its limited physical scope certainly has allowed rapid progress. The box layout has another advantage in this small scale; the lack of a cameo casework framing the scene allows a wider range of photography and consideration from all angles - and so you see here some posed photos as it stands and already, the promise of the ‘realistic’ miniature can be found aplenty.

The promise of the ‘realistic’ miniature

This particular view is a surprise. I thought the model would be enjoyed ‘side on’ as usual, but this long shot, despite the shortcomings of gauge and physical size, looks wonderful. The textures of the Slaters embossed materials and the shadows cast by the recently added drain pipes,  the light and dark, inside outside effect of the lean-to shelter.

In fact all of these photos are greatly encouraging and my mind has wandered beyond the bounds of this small sanctuary and I find myself contemplating something more of the branch… imagining the twisting route along the valley, tree lined sylvan setting, small lane alongside, passing between cottages and over narrow roads… I wonder…

Before I get carried away with extensions or expansion it’s worth remembering the purpose of this small layout - a mindful distraction and a chance to recharge and finish something. Follow the creative process as fast and as far as feels right - and it is very much fulfilling that intent. It is providing light in the dark. I’m excited to work upon it…

Until next time, more soon…

  1. Definitely the Wenfordbridge feel James. It would be great if you were inspired to model more of the line!
