Commission: Hudson Hunslet (again) in 7/8ths...
The third of this years batch of Hudson Hunslets, and the fourth to be completed this year is this green 'Trefor' cabbed example...
Inspired by the example that is plinthed at Blanau Ffestiniog, the one that provided several key dimensions and lots of prototype photos, this green is broken up by the red beams and side frames, black Hudson Hunslet on the radiator and black window spectacle frames. The engine and flywheel cover are contrasting colours, and the fuel filter has been picked out in blue, as if a recent replacement has been made. The finish is a little more cared for than the previous examples, less oil and grease around the engine. The body coloured roof allows the exhaust staining to be more pronounced. I'm really pleased with the finish, consistent but not uniform - the nature of building up colour in several thin layers.
This is a 45mm gauge model, hence why it's perched on the tracks of my tramway, but it looks surprisingly at home in it's dark green, a very similar shade to the tramway's own Simplex 40S.
As with all my Hudson Hunslet commissions, the roof is an option, and is removable allowing you to appreciate the full cab control detail. The floor of the cab has been worn away with hob-nail boots over the years, but the paintwork is in generally pretty good condition. It's destined for a long journey across the Atlantic in January, to it's new home in the USA. In the meantime, my customer has requested one small alteration, I will be painting the front mesh and edging in matt black - which will then require a subtle dry brushing. It is the ability to tailor the finish to my customers exact requirements that sets out the difference between a batch built model and my own custom model making service. If you're interested in commissioning your own model, in any scale, gauge or type of model, then do get in touch for a personal proposal. More soon...
