Sun Queen for Renfrew…

This is a wonderful hobby. One of my customers also runs a business with experience in shipping and offered to help Steve and myself with getting the Planet Industrials Victory into the country…

The least we could do was to offer him a customised Victory and the result is Sun Queen, destined for Renfrew Wharf. The result of a deluxe 4 stage weathering with Custom Nameplate Studio etched plates, she is suitably filthy for use on the layout.

The base black model provides a great base for this sort of finish and shows that black is anything but boring when a mix of rust, dirt and soot effects are worked into an overall picture of a maintained and loved yet with a hint of neglect creeping in. The usual palette of Humbrol enamels (33 and 98 washes, 133, 245 27004 airbrush and various details touches) mean she should blend with Renfrew and it’s collection of rolling stock well.

The footplates also feature a little clutter in the form of oil can, jack and bucket from the RT models range (also available now from Light Railway Stores). These little touches can be over done, so once they’re glued in place a touch of the same shades as the wash to the raw white metal casting is enough to make them feel part of the finish, rather than just ‘stuck on’.

If you’ve got a Victory and you’d like to take advantage of the pre-order weathering price I originally offered I’m doing another batch in the new year, get in touch to put your name down, in the meantime, more soon…
