West Dorset memories…

Hecate had a nomadic career, after a brief spell on the East Sussex it moved west to another of the Colonel’s light railways, the West Dorset

In reality, just an opportunity to test out the lighting and balance on Bishopsbourne, my latest layout commission which is nearly completed. This Hornby model custom finished with Modelu crew shunts a Slaters wagon also custom finished with West Dorset markings. I’ve a few things left to add to the layout and at that point I’ll do a proper photo shoot. Until then though, more soon…

  1. Hi James
When I saw W D on the wagon I immediately thought War Department and the use by them of the Shropshire and Montgomery Railway up to the late 1960's. I remembered they had a "Hecate" as well but then found that left in he mid-30's pre-WD, so back to you history not mine.
I do have a soft spot for the S&M particularly as in, I think, 1967 on a Geography field course I walked some of the track bed and that was in spite of the signs saying "Danger WD Keep Out". As I remember it there was still other railway infrastructure BUT I did not have a camera

    Best regards

    Alan

    1. I’ve the S&M book and it too is a wonderfully eccentric line and in many ways less quaint than the K&ESR, but equally eccentric! My favourite Col. Stephens line though is the WC&P.

  2. James, these simple, unassuming posts are powerful and inspirational. So much to be gleaned and considered. Thanks for these.

  3. Your 4mm work looks like 7mm, just as your 2mm work looks like 4mm. Quite the feat to pull off, and something that inspires, of course. I'm looking forward to the full photoshoot for Bishopsbourne.
