A foreigner in strange lands…
A very unlikely catch on Beaverbrook yesterday evening, sat silently in front of the empty ‘to let’ warehouse, just across the road from the TerraTransport office was this big red modern monster…
2246 is a GP20C-eco, an modern EMD product with a V8 710 power unit and a little over 2000hp, a modern day GP38 I guess, a new locomotive whilst utilising just enough old GP9 elements to warrant as a rebuild… all of that is of course fascinating but quite what it was doing here remains somewhat of a mystery, in this ex-CN bastion it’s a long way from home.
A Briggs kit, I built this model last year due in part to a fascination with rebuilds and in part the prototype itself… one I remember being launched on to the railroad without much fanfare in a short side column in Trains. Canadian Pacific has gone, lost to a greed driven ‘merger’ with Kansas City Southern, the resultant CPKC a stupid and simplistic cheap way of creating a new corporate image, so even this ‘modern’ locomotive represents history on Beaverbrook.
