Commission: L&Y van
The last commission to feature in 2024, this is built from a kit of an unusual Lancashire and Yorkshire van from Taff Vale Models...
The prototype was unusual because the bogies could swivel - allowing it to enter buildings or goods yards using traditional wagon turntables, one bogie at a time! The model followed a fairly standard etched kit construction but came with some neat 3D printed details and a pre-rolled roof (which actually ended up not being much help). Construction - bar the very last details, is all soldered.
Finished in a high gloss grey to allow my customer to add decals before sealing and weathering, it almost looks as if it has rolled out of the factory! Turn it over and there is a reasonable representation of all the waggly bits, again, soldered for strength.
I am happy to work on any type of commission - be it a single wagon for weathering through to a complete scratch build. Working on unique items of rolling stock like this, from etched kits, draws upon the same skills required in locomotive building and is not something I shy away from - I enjoyed working on this model and the problem solving and thinking that goes into trying to garner how the kit designer intended the thing to go together! If you'd like me to bring a dream model to life, or build a flat kit you've had for years, then get in touch and let's discuss a commission for 2025?! Until next time, more soon...
