Victory at Pont-y-dulais...
Cold crisp autumnal mornings, the morning mist has cleared and the leaves are beginning to turn a wonderful shade of amber, which catch the low sun and the hillsides erupt in a sea of beautiful colour...
Meanwhile, the autumn of steam at Pont-y-dulais, although at present we only suspect, the signs are there - steam has been gone for 10 years on British Rail and the omni-present internal combustion engine has already found a home in several other valleys here in South Wales. Now though, in this instance all those worries are forgotten as we enjoy the spectacle of ageing Kerr, Stuart Victory shunting empties (the internal user wagons were used between the pit and washery) ahead of another trip up through that sea of colour.
Pont-y-dulais is my micro shelf cameo layout, just 1m long, about 25cm deep, proving that we all have space for a grown up model railway. To learn more about the layouts development use the Pont-y-dulais label, or if you haven't got a copy already a lot of the concepts and theory are discussed in my first book, published by Wild Swan and available from all good railway book shops (including Titfield and Light Railway Stores).
Our Victory models are in transit and will be here shortly - available exclusively though Rails and Light Railway Stores, as are the Accurascale MDOs also shown above. In the meantime, let's enjoy the autumn all around us, and get out to see some real railways this coming weekend. Until next time, more soon...
