Mosslanda: Wrecsam basic composition…
The Wrecsam Canolog project is all about pushing the boundaries of scenic layouts in a small space. One of the challenges with a limited baseboard depth is how to balance the scenic composition...
The prototype is a short and compact 'modern' station build as part of the retail park (itself built upon the old site of the station). It's platforms barely hold a 2 car train and have recently been modified to hold the 3 car 'Wombles'. My layout is designed to feel like Wrecsam with the most minimal of compression. The balance between the back wall of the shopping centre, it's relative height, and the photograph I want to use as the back scene to the left all have required some careful balancing. A mix of Google Earth measurements and trial and error result in the scene you see here - and one I am happy to progress further.
With the basic proportions mocked in you can see the warehouse has had brick work and detail added as well as a coat of primer. The first colour is also on the platform (don't worry, this will be toned down as work continues). One thing I'm keen to experiment with on this project is the balance between 3D texture and colour - where colour can be more important than actual 'bricks', the platform vs the warehouse will hopefully prove a few ideas - or not. It's all a learning experience.
Next up I need to get some more colour on all these elements as they need gluing down before work can progress on further scenics! Until next time, more soon...
