Pi Chemical Works 1986...

Following the closure of the colliery at Pont-y-dulais the line was lifted, however the spur to the Pi chemical works remained in use until closure of the plant in 1988...

The works maintained a fleet of Sentinels during the 1980s, here number 2, a chain driven example is seen at the BR exchange sidings with a rake of coal wagons whose load has been disgorged for the insatiable boiler house. The spur saw a variety of traffic in this period including bagged chemical products in standard BR closed vans, as well as fine chemical liquors distributed by their own fleet of TTA tank wagons.
