Commission: Backwoods Garrett...

No, not that one, not the iconic NGG16 but the equally wonderful 0-4-0 0-4-0 standard gauge industrial, 4 of which were built for various concerns across the UK...
This model arrived partly built, like many of us my customer had made a start and then for various reasons the project stalled and sat in a box for many many years. The chassis units were built by another commission builder many years ago, and a start had been made on the body but it had not progressed further. I was provided with everything, but with the model so progressed the remaining parts had often been cut from frets so the longest part of the job was reading instructions and working out what went where, and if anything was missing...
Working through the body was assembled, instructions being well written with generally good fit on components. Some parts required experience that would have challenged a beginner, and other elements were strangely not described or generic details provided. I’ve tried to recreate a particular example based on prototype photos, and that meant working out differences and where detail needed reworking.
The finished model has been primed, and smoothed, and primed again ready for my customer to finish the model himself. It’s been a fun project, I’ve got a photo below when I assembled the chassis units temporarily before she was primed. There is a lot of character here!
If you wonder what the whole model looks like, here it is prior to disassembly and priming.
If you have a flat pack kit, or part started stalled project, then I’m happy to take a look and give you a personal proposal. I’m about to start in another Backwoods kit, and it will be fascinating to see the contrast. In the meantime, more soon...
