TerraTransport PEI...

Chris recently started the first of a few posts on speculative proto-freelance ‘post CN’ operations on Prince Edward Island...
It was through the discussion on this that the idea of TerraTransport beyond Newfoundland was born, and my previous posts and thoughts on the subject here on my own blog that has resulted in both the U18B and SW1500 models. As the proto-freelance concept grows beyond my own postulating it’s exciting to think where things could end up. In the meantime, here is a ‘what if’ in miniature, a U18B off the HSW was lent to the PEI for 1997 to help with a motive power shortage. Seen here at the Visser warehouse, the most southerly customer remaining on the Murray Harbour subdivision.

I’m looking forward to working on more North American models for my own projects shortly. Cameo layout design and build service is available though, so get in touch for a personal proposal. More soon...

  1. That U18 is so cool. I'm unlikely to tire of seeing it any time soon..

Looking at this photo I'm struck by how flexible scenes like yours of Kinross are and how, just as easily, we could retitle this to other outposts in the Terra Transport empire such as somewhere on the Franklin Spur in Moncton or Burnside in Halifax. I think this is only opportunity as it frees the individual model from the limitations of a particular identity and invites it to move more fluidly. Instead of creating the layout as a terminal thing it replaces it as a platform. Guiding this tangent back toward Kinross, you had mentioned working on more American stock, so Kinross can easily become a place for those to be used and you can focus on what you want to be working on next rather than having to always consider the dance partners of new rolling stock and new layout.

Too much tangent. Sorry. That U18 looks terrific. It's a damn shame axle loadings on the Murray Harbour Sub. still won't allow more than one engine. For the crew this means that they'll be running at least part of the way looking back over their shoulders and for us railfans it means we'll never see this U18 being run with one of the original PEIR GMD1's.

    1. So well said Chris, it’s the same as how Pont-y-dulais has worked out for my OO items...
I mentioned other North American projects... you probably have some idea of all of them!
