Limited clearance…

A pair of low height small industrials, perfect for the space starved modeller of curiosities…

I sent the photo to my good friend Chris, who felt inclined to put pen to paper…

And posed just perfectly. You always read that photo caption where a crew tows the engines out of the shed for a friendly fan to explore.

“Neither the Sentinel nor the Peckett were in steam that weekend but there were a few staff around and they kindly left us to our daydreams on the mutual understanding that, in our pursuits, we wouldn’t get ourselves killed. Not sure how we did it right but one minute we were just talking about how great this place was, how much it meant to finally get here, how our borrowed Cortina almost didn’t get us here, so we heard the JCB being fired up behind us and before we knew it they kindly drag these two engines out into the sun where our cameras could get a better look. Not in steam, no, but we could feel it anyway. You can’t help someone feel like you once did but the memory of it is something I feel like I’m still chasing through each of these layouts. These layouts have models of engines and cars but what am I modelling? That afternoon. As accurately as I can, each time, down to the last of the tractor exhaust that reminds us that there are machines on both sides of the lense that made this memory come alive.”

The crimson Sentinel, on hire from Hilton and Fulljames is built from the RT Models kit (a superb piece of design but not for the beginner). Alongside a modified Hornby Peckett sports a cut down cab and drop footplate courtesy of a Planet Industrials cab conversion, a little more involved than the standard Peckett post-date kit, but one within reach of the beginner never the less. Whilst news of Planet Industrials has been quiet for several months there are several new kits in development as well as the back log of existing prototypes waiting for release. It’s going to be an exciting few months with Warley being firmly on the agenda for November. Until then though, enjoy this scene on Pont-y-dulais, and dream of your own small industrial layout. More soon…
