Commission: Cane in 009….
Several years ago I produced a layout design for a customer based upon a sugar cane processing mill and narrow gauge tramway…
Since then I have worked on several different commissions with the same customer and today we have another set of 009 models destined for this longer term project.
A pair of diesels have been created using 3D printed body shells with added details. The Diema (left) is based upon the Taiwanese prototype at the Welshpool and Llanfair. This utilises a Kato tram chassis so I’ve tried to disguise its lack of a wheelset! The more Australian looking machine is a much older print in the old sintered nylon material but with some added detail it passes muster - and runs on a new Farish 08 chassis.
It has been good fun working on something a little out of the ordinary with a bit of a free rein on finishing. I would love to work with you on your own project - be that a simple wagon to weather to a complete scratch built locomotive. Creating models that feel as much part of you as of my hand is part of the commission process and you can read testimonials to that effect on my ‘Modemaking Commissions’ page.
A quartet of ‘modern’ cane bins, etched nickel silver from Badger Models. They have been a soldered up and their fine joints meant several disintegrated and had to be formed carefully from parts! Painted up you’d never know and they have been lightly weathered. Similar in length to the forthcoming EuroNG cane bins, these are much wider and have a more basic chassis but certainly have real presence. I’ve lightly weathered them with a muddier shade than usual as requested by my customer.
Both have been painted in a typical livery using the same colours as the steam engines produced previously for the same project.
Until next time, more soon…

I love writing and creating material for the blog. If you enjoy what you read and engage with I would be appreciative of any donation, large or small, to help me keep it advert and restriction free. Alternatively, feel free to buy me a coffee.
The Cane locos and bins look really good. Soldering hose bins would be beyond me. Although the "Australian" unit is freelance it looks like what a mill might have done to a Clyde 0-6-0 during the "slack" - maybe reengined with a Mercedes prime mover
ReplyDeleteHoping the the layout can progress and we will see these models in their environment
Best regards

Thanks Alan - glad you are pleased with them and look forward to developing the layout with you when the time comes.
