Hilton and Mears: Google in the trees…

A characteristic of any Pinsly line was always how casually family locomotives moved between railways. We’re on the East Suffolk but chasing a Claremont & Concord engine today…

“Chasing an engine” was really how it was when it all started this morning. They left the yard with no more of a load than the thermos of coffee in the cab and some fall leaves on the pilots.

It’s fall and carloads change like the leaves.

We lifted an empty boxcar at the iconic Halton & Marsh feed mill down at St.J and it’s early afternoon.

The sun’s erasing just enough of those early morning “a warm jacket’s a good idea” temperatures and we’re in lighter workshirt sleeves picking up a cement hopper - itself lighter for having emptied a load of cement into a PiCement truck.

It might not be a bad idea to play a little flying switch game to get the two cars into the going home end of the engine. Either way, the work today feels part like cleaning up the railroad as it is one of being here in the north country.

And, if this is all there is, it’s not a bad life at all.

Today’s post is brought to you by Hilton and Mears. Modelling by James, words by Chris and imagination a joint construct. If you’ve enjoyed today’s post then we’ve created a whole lot more over the years, use the ‘Hilton and Mears’ label to find it all… until next time, more soon…
